When Turning Point was founded in 1964, attitudes and perceptions were very different to how they are now. The multi-layered reasons behind alcohol and drug dependency were not yet understood, the importance of mental health was less widely discussed, and the approach to supporting people with a learning disability was often through segregation, not inclusion.
Since then we have seen a huge amount of change in society and Turning Point has been at the forefront, supporting hundreds of thousands of people in that time, each one with their own unique story to tell.
To mark our 60th year we’ve chosen 60 objects to tell our story, from an amazing array of stories shared from individuals across the country.

Turning Point, in partnership with aDoddle.org, has embarked on an exciting initiative to map out the communities where we deliver services. By working together we aim to enhance community engagement, foster connections and promote wellbeing. Whether it is finding a local support group, a warm space or discovering hidden assets, these community maps empower people to navigate their neighbourhoods.
aDoddle.org, is on a mission to connect communities with the support they need, when they need it.
Imagine a vibrant, interactive map that’s brimming with local charities and community projects – that’s aDoddle!
They are working to make it simple, or should we say aDoddle, for anyone to find help, volunteer opportunities, or resources close to home.
It is a growing treasure trove of information, designed to make a real difference in people’s lives by making ‘finding help’ as easy as finding a coffee shop.
So, whether you’re seeking support or looking to give back, aDoddle.org is working hard to become your go-to guide for fostering kindness and collaboration in your community.
